Research is inherently innovative, and many research ideas can prove to be immensely valuable to society. Industry is perhaps the first actor that comes to mind, but administrative organisations and other non-commercial entities can also greatly benefit from research.
Working with innovation and commercialisation based on research can be a challenging, yet often highly rewarding, process. The effort to further develop your research ideas can provide fresh perspectives on your work, open new networks, and perhaps even offer opportunities for additional funding.
Vestlandets Innovasjonsselskap AS (VIS) is the organization that UiB has established to help researchers develop your research ideas into products and services that benefit society. To foster a robust and dynamic professional community, VIS has been set up as an independent company owned by several research institutions, including UiB, Helse Bergen, the Institute of Marine Research, and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. VIS helps many researchers every year with innovation and commercialisation, and last year we had a record number of projects that resulted in agreements or start-up companies.
Historically, BIO has contributed a large share of the ideas submitted to VIS, but in recent years the number of ideas has been very low. Both BIO and VIS now wish to address this together! Consequently, VIS will henceforth be present more regularly at BIO. We will therefore have fixed office hours on Wednesdays until lunchtime (office 2A14.2, Thormøhlens gate 53A).
