ECC Career Day – Building bridges to the future 8 May 2025

On Thursday morning, students and researchers gathered at Konferanserom A in VilVite for the ECC Career Day, hosted by the Early Career Community (ECC). The event covered a rich program designed to help early career scientists navigate the diverse career paths available after a PhD, from launching their own business to transitioning into private industry.

The day kicked off with a series of inspiring talks from professionals across academia and applied research. Joachim Töpper from NINA opened the session by sharing insights into ecological consulting and applied environmental research. He was followed by Anders Goksøyr from UiB, who reflected on marine research and its connection to science-policy interfaces and science dissemination. Next, Knut Wiik Vollset from Norce provided a closer look at marine science in industry-linked research and innovation. The session concluded with Sushma Nagaraja from UiB, who offered her perspective on academic career pathways and emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Each speaker gave a 20-minute talk, followed by engaging Q&A sessions that allowed participants to delve deeper into topics such as research careers, work-life balance, and skill-building. After a networking lunch, attendees regrouped for roundtable discussion in the afternoon. This smaller and interactive session focused on practical career topics such as transferable skills, job search strategies, and career decision-making.

We believe that this event was valuable for exchanging ideas, gaining career insights, and building connections across sectors. A big thank you to the organizers, speakers, and everyone who participated!
