TORDIS AND FRITZ C. RIEBERS FOUNDATION – GRANTS

The foundation may award grants to graduate students at the Department of Life Sciences under the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology at the University of Bergen.

With an application deadline of 28.02. each year, the board of the Foundation may award scholarship portions to one or two people who in the previous year (spring or autumn) received a passing grade on their master’s thesis and thereby a master’s degree in biology with a focus on biodiversity, evolution and ecology. Candidates who have written their thesis on botany or in the direction of botany shall be preferred. The scholarship portions shall preferably go to candidates who in the previous year have completed the master’s degree with the best grade (spring or autumn) for the entire master’s study programme as a whole.

Candidates who are awarded scholarship portions may use the funds for two purposes: Repayment of student debt to the Norwegian State Loan Fund for Education and/or a study trip that must take place no later than 3 years after obtaining the master’s degree. When the funds have been used, the candidates shall submit a report to the board of the Foundation with an account of how the scholarship portion has been allocated.

The annual scholarship portions can total up to 6 times the Basic Amount in the National Insurance Scheme, but are limited upwards to a maximum of 3 G per scholarship portion. Currently, 1 G is NOK 130,160, and consequently 3 G is NOK 390,480.

The board decides whether scholarship portion(s) should be awarded for the individual year at all and how large the portion(s) should be within the framework, if so.

Applications for scholarships with documentation for the exam should be sent to:
