I recently attended the 22nd International Conference on Diseases of Fish and Shellfish (EAFP XXII) in Heraklion, Crete. Here I presented my poster “Polyvalent DNA vaccines targeting salmon louse labial gland proteins”, which was awarded the poster prize in the student category. The conference is organized by the European Association of Fish Pathologists and is an important meeting place for researchers working on diseases of fish and shellfish. It was incredibly inspiring to meet so many talented and committed people from all over the world, and in addition to experiencing Greek culture with both good food and great historical sights.
In my poster I presented my work on developing a polyvalent DNA vaccine against salmon lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis). Salmon lice are one of the biggest challenges for Norwegian aquaculture, and the goal of my project is to create a vaccine that can neutralize the parasite’s immunomodulatory proteins and thereby strengthen the salmon’s ability to resist infection.
I look forward to continuing the work on the project, and exploring how vaccines can contribute to more sustainable solutions in the fight against salmon lice.
