Guest students/trainees – registration and admission for spring 2026

Please note that applications must be processed by both the department and faculty before UiB’s registration deadline of October 15th, and we therefore need applications earlier than that date:

Internal application deadline – as early as possible, no later than Friday October 10th.

The application portal for registration of guest students and trainee applicants is open from September 18 to October 15, 2025.

Deadline for registering applications is October 15*

We ask that you forward the information and application deadline to relevant academic communities.

Conditions for assessment of guest students:

  • International students residing abroad.
  • Be an active student at master’s level
  • Academic affiliation/ academic background/research collaboration
  • Competence development within the field
  • Need for contact with subject specialists/need for literature/source searches

Information about the assessment of guest students is only available in Norwegian, as this is not an open admission.

Important:

International students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland must pay tuition fees. This applies to all students who will take exams at UIB (including guest students).

Applicants from countries outside the EU must also document financing. Documentation must be uploaded by October 15th.

  • Autumn-2025: kr 75845,-
  • Autumn-2025 and spring-2026: kr,166 859.-
  • Spring-2026: kr. 91 014,-

Erasmus trainee:

Period of stay must be between 2 and 12 months*

*Stays of less than 2 months will not be registered/given student rights.

Guest and trainee status is granted for a maximum of 2 semesters, including previous stays at UIB.

Guest students and trainee students are not entitled to a housing guarantee.
