We still get quite a few questions regarding which rules and routines apply when receiving guests – including trainees. We would therefore like to point out the following:
General rules
- All visits should be approved by the Department well ahead of the guest’s arrival. You apply for approval by submitting the electronic GUEST FORM.
- A workplace for the guest must be arranged ahead of the stay.
- ALL guests staying at the department for more than 1 month MUST pay a bench fee of NOK 3,000 per month from month 2.
- Financing of the bench fee must be agreed beforehand.

Traineeships with a duration of 2 months or more
- Separate rules and APPLICATION DEADLINES apply to all STUDENTS staying for more than 2 months. The applications must be approved by the department and faculty before they are forwarded. Therefore, all applications must be sent to the study section (studie.bio@uib.no) within these internal deadlines:
- 25 April for stays in the autumn semester (August-December)
- 10 October for stays in the spring semester (January-July)
- All students MUST apply via
- European students (bachelor’s, master’s and PhD): UiB’s Erasmus+ Traineeship scheme by filling in the “Learning agreement for traineeship” and attaching a copy of your passport. - Students from countries outside Europe (master’s only): UiB’s guest student scheme by filling in the guest student form, as well as other documents, which must be sent to the department within the given deadlines, see above. See this page for more info [Norwegian language]. Application form:
