Hi!
My name is Maria John and I come from India. I am a new PhD research fellow at the Department of Biological sciences. I completed my bachelors and masters from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram, India. During my master thesis project, I worked on understanding the role of microRNAs in the circadian regulation of locomotor activity rest rhythm in Drosophila melanogaster.
My PhD project at UIB focuses on tumor cell invasive switching and is supervised by Fergal O’Farrell. The purpose of this project is to understand the stages of metastasis and the roles played by drivers of metastasis in vivo with the help of the multicellular model Drosophila melanogaster. I also aim to decipher the complex interplay between tumor cells and the microenvironment. (see our website: https://ofarrell.w.uib.no/)
Looking forward to the time in Bergen and being part of the research at BIO !
