Ocean science seminar – Autonomous landers and their applications for deep-sea research | Fjord and Coastal Ecology | UiB

Dear all,

The Fjord and Coastal Ecology research group is pleased to invite you to our next Ocean Science seminar which will be held as a hybrid event on the 12th of April from 14.00 – 16.00.

The topic of this session will be “Autonomous landers and their applications for deep-sea research“.

The event will feature three lectures from experts in this field and will cover the following topics:

  • The state of the art of autonomous landers for deep-sea research – Kevin Hardy (Global Ocean Design, USA)
  • Small autonomous landers for studying the community ecology of nearshore submarine canyons – Ashley Nicoll (Stony Brook University, USA)
  • Characterizing deepwater oxygen variability and seafloor community responses using an autonomous lander – Natalya Gallo (University of Bergen, Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research)

Kevin and Ashley will be in Bergen as part of Bjerknes’ CLIFORD project, while Natalya is a post-doc in BIO’s HypOnFjordFish and PI of CLIFORD’s WP3.

The seminar will provide insights into the monitoring of deep-sea communities and the use of autonomous landers for deep-sea research. It will also offer a great opportunity to network with other scientists from different backgrounds and institutions and share ideas.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Best regards,
