Happy New Year to you all!

I hope you had a wonderful celebration and are ready for 2025!

This will (again) be an exciting year for BIO, and the turn of the year is a good opportunity to reflect on where we are and where we want to go. We will continue to work on important areas such as teaching staff, course portfolio, and external funding. We will also strengthen our focus on coming together as colleagues, where I hope you will help establish bioTORSDAG as a regular professional and social meeting place for all employees. During the year, we also aim to organize our own “BIO Conference” (name not finalized…), a challenge given to our promising young researchers (ECC), and I am confident it is a task that will be handled brilliantly! I also expect that the research group structure we’ve discussed in recent weeks will foster increased collaboration and efforts in areas like research strategy, funding, and infrastructure.

Mapping our work environment is an important task carried out at regular intervals. In 2025, it is time once again for a larger work environment survey, and at the end of January, all employees will receive a common questionnaire via email (ARK). It is always useful and interesting to go through such a process, where the goal is to develop and improve our work environment. We’ll see which areas stand out in this year’s survey and could form the basis for prioritized efforts moving forward. You will receive more information about this year’s survey as it approaches.

The University Museum of Bergen is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2025, and this will be marked by events throughout the year. Highlights from the program and more information can be found here https://www.uib.no/200år. Several events from BIO have also been submitted, so stay tuned and join in on the celebration!

In the coming weeks, we will naturally be busy with the start of the spring semester. Even though the spring semester is long, I know from experience that it is also intense. Tremendous effort is put in by the study administration and all educators in supporting BIO students. I wish you all the best of luck, confident that we have abundant expertise and dedication to carry out all tasks in the best possible way!

Have a great weekend!
