The deadline for reporting adjustments of the curriculums to the faculty for autumn 2025 is 1 March. Changes to subjects or study programs must be approved by the program boards before they are submitted to the faculty. Any changes that may have financial significance for the department must also be approved via the Department Council. The meeting schedule for the program boards is not quite ready yet, but meeting dates will be announced in the calendar when decided.
The faculty requests the following:
- The faculty asks for a concise briefing where there are plans for major changes in the study programme, fields of study or essential subjects used by several departments.
- Changes to courses and course descriptions – course descriptions are legally binding and are important in the processing of complaints from students regarding exams, exam aids, censorship and compulsory activities.
Mandatory work requirements:
Compulsory teaching activities are any activities that are required to be completed in order to be assessed in a subject. Compulsory activities do not affect grading in a course, but must be approved for the student to have the opportunity to be assessed §6-6 (1 and 2). A subject with a written exam cannot therefore include compulsory activities in the grading basis. For portfolio assessment, it must be stated explicitly in the course description whether it is possible to get an assessment in semesters when the subject is not taught. If assessment is possible every semester (regardless of whether the course is taught or not), the course description must state whether previously completed parts of the portfolio are to be included in the basis for determining the grade, or not.
The faculty asks that we quality-assure that credits and working hours for the students are in line with the study regulations. Cf §2-3 Subject (4) A credit makes up 1-60 of an entire academic year and involves approximately 25-30 working hours for the students. Feel free to use the resource prepared by the University Center in Svalbard: https://www.unis.no/facilities/teaching-and-learning-tools/ (Calculating student workload).
We ask that all changes desired for courses in the autumn of 2025 be entered in Emne påNett (EpN) https://epn.fsweb.no/ (video guide: https://mitt.uib.no/courses/23451). If changes are to be reported that do not fit in the EpN template, please submit changes to the study section: studie@bio.uib.no
The deadline for reporting changes is 07 February 2025 at 12 noon.
Best regards,
the Study Section
