Last Tuesday, we received a great summary about UiB Ocean from Øyvind Fiksen, outgoing Vice Dean for Marine Initiatives. The work to strenghten UiB’s position as a marine university is important both for UiB and for Bergen, and UiB delivers world-class marine education and research. I want to congratulate Øyvind on a fantastic effort and a job well done over the past four years, and at the same time, welcome him back to BIO as a professor from the coming fall..

The 2026 budget and the long-term budget for 2026–2030 were approved by the Department Council last Wednesday. The day after, on Thursday, we held a general meeting where the budgets were also presented to the entire department. More information about the general meeting and the budgets can be found in this edition of Bionytt.

We are approaching the end of a hectic exam period, and I want to commend and thank everyone for a fantastic effort over the past few weeks. A high number of bachelor students are taking their course exams, in addition to master’s exams and PhD defenses. Hats off to the impressive system that is in operation!

There are many summer gatherings happening now, and this is the last message from the leadership before the summer holidays. I hope you all have a wonderful summer with time for both relaxation and new experiences.
