Hello

As previously informed, the education managers at NT have developed a guideline table for the use of AI at NT in collaboration with the department and faculty. The table shows how AI can be used in different ways (A-G) in teaching and assessment, as well as how the use of AI should be documented. It is the teacher/course leader who decides which AI use is permitted, and this must be communicated in each individual course. Local discussions related to the desired use are important in the different disciplines and programs. It is important that the existence of the supervisor is made known in the academic environment and among students, and I hope you will be helpful with this.

The heads of education and the faculty will continue to work on establishing a common understanding for the use of AI at NT. The goal is to identify common needs and at the same time define specific needs related to different disciplines and study programs. The needs may include increased competence and examples of good use, but also questions related to regulations and assessment methods. This work will contribute to a holistic and professionally rooted approach to AI in education.

It will be difficult to limit the use of AI, as verification is challenging. Therefore, it becomes all the more important to consider teaching methods that promote deep learning and critical thinking. Otherwise, I recommend reading the mandate of the Malthe-Sørenssen Committee (https://malthesorenssenutvalget.no/) – here the heads of education and the departments have a process for collecting input. Disciplinary input is especially important.

Information channel on Teams
The faculty has a group on Teams General | Teaching on NT | Microsoft Teams where all lecturers and study administration should be members. Here we post information about relevant seminars on teaching, use of AI, etc. We ask the departments to forward the link to the lecturers at the department.

Kind regards
Monica Jordheim, Vice Dean for Education
