Dear all,

Many thanks to all of you who responded to the employee survey (the deadline was earlier this week). We have received over 100 responses, and this forms a very good basis for further work on strengthening the academic-social working environment at BIO.

I am very happy that the group working to strengthen the professional/social network for PhDs and post docs at BIO is organizing a party again; this time on 1 December. The atmosphere was very good last time, so I hope even more people will join this time.

It seems that we will end up with 20 dissertations in 2023. This is a marked increase from last year’s rock bottom with 13 dissertations and that is great. But based on the number of PhD students we have at BIO (just over 100), we should aim for at least 25 dissertations per year, so we still have a long way to go.

As far as I am informed, the position as Head of department at BIO will be announced within a fairly short time, with an application deadline in January. Although BIO have our financial challenges, I can confess that the position is very rewarding because there are so many great and scientifically strong colleagues here and because we are doing something extremely important. And even with the challenges associated with being Head of department at BIO, I have no qualms about saying that it is the best job in the world. So here it is important to encourage yourself, or others, to apply.

With this I wish you all a nice weekend.

Hilsen

Ørjan
