SPIRE funds can be applied for for the following:

SPIRE funds for international research collaborations.

The support is to be regarded as seed funding for the initiation and development of new international research collaborations as a basis for project applications to Horizon Europe, NFR and other external funding sources.

Project applications that include researchers from institutions outside the EU/EEA area can be prioritized.

Who can apply:

  • Scientific employees in first positions (combined positions with a research component), researchers (code: 1109, 1110, 1183 – with a doctorate) and postdoctoral fellows at UiB.
  • Scientific staff must be employed for a minimum of 50% at UiB.
  • Postdoctoral fellows must have 100% employment at UiB, and must show employment at UiB 2 years in advance to be able to apply.

The SPIRE funds can cover:

  • Exemption [frikjøp] of academic staff in first positions (combined positions that include a research component), researchers (code: 1109, 1110, 1183 – with a doctorate) and postdoctoral fellows.
  • NOTE: The funds go to the institute and not to the researcher.
  • Exemption [frikjøp] of postdoctoral fellows and scientific assistants who help UiB researchers with application writing.
  • The use of external consultants with whom UiB has an agreement can also be considered.
  • Travel and meeting costs in connection with research collaboration and visits by foreign researchers in connection with writing applications.
