The department council received an update on the status in the council meeting on Wednesday, June 18. We have planned an area reduction of 4000 m2, which will take effect from 01.01.27. This has a major effect on the reduction of our deficit. The plans were explained in more detail as well as the effect the area reduction will have on our long-term budget in the general meeting held on Thursday, June 19, see separate summaries from the meeting.

The collaboration between different subject groups has focused on co-location for better use of infrastructure, instruments and laboratories. It is important to assess the current situation and prepare for continued functionality, but in smaller areas. We are working on solutions for joint laboratories between UM and BIO and continuation of collaboration. For teaching laboratories, a separate working group has been established consisting of Jonathan, Grete and Beate.

On the third floor of T55, an area for ultra-freezer storage of approximately 30 m² x 2 is planned. There is also a need to locate areas for storage of teaching lab equipment. In terms of offices, there are no plans for large open landscapes with free placement. The reconstruction will result in smaller single offices of 6-7 m², double offices of 12 m², and larger shared offices for PhDs and postdocs, as is the case today.

We now see that the original schedule will not be met. We envision being able to finalize a proposal after the summer, in the third quarter. It is unlikely that there will be any relocation activity in 2025.
