In Etne, the Institute of Marine Research has a fish trap that registers all fish that are going up into the watercourse to spawn. Every single individual in the trap is sampled and the trap is smoked twice a day, 7 days a week. This requires a lot of personnel and we see that we need extra help in the period from August to about mid-November. The main task is to smoke the trap, but there are also some additional tasks such as electrofishing, maintenance of PIT antennas and various other work. Training will be provided on what is necessary.
For more information about the platform itself, see http://etneelva.hi.no
We are looking for someone who is flexible and hardworking with at least basic knowledge of computers. The job requires some physics on days with high water flow, with long working days and requires some physical strength and endurance to clean the trap during periods of high water flow. It is important that you are not afraid of being in water.
The work can be combined with writing a master’s thesis. There are days that require you to work all day and other days you can finish work after smoking in the morning and write your thesis. The work is largely very flexible with the exception of smoking the trap in the morning and evening. Accommodation is covered by the Institute of Marine Research during work periods. We rent a house with 4 bedrooms, where you share accommodation with up to 3 other people at times. Normally there are 1-2 people in the apartment.
Employment as soon as possible!
