Curriculum changes for courses to be taught in spring 2026?

September is approaching and so are meetings in the program boards for all study programs at the Department of Life Sciences.

The deadline for submitting curriculum changes for courses to be taught in spring 2026 is Friday, September 5.

Changes to courses can be entered in the Online Course Planner (EpN), unless otherwise agreed with the administrative person responsible for the course. Please contact the administrative person responsible for the course if anything is unclear.

The faculty asks the department to update the course descriptions in relation to the following points:

  • Quality assurance of workload in courses Quality assurance that the workload in a course corresponds to the number of credits. One credit constitutes 1/60 of an entire academic year and involves approx. 25-30 working hours for students. UNIS has developed a useful resource that can be of help.
  • Estimate of number of hours The course description should provide an estimate of the number of hours for the teaching activities included in the course (lectures/active teaching/lab/field/etc.). This is filled in in the field “Work and teaching methods”.
  • Compulsory teaching activity Mandatory teaching activities must be approved in order to be assessed in a course. If the form of assessment in the course is a written exam, compulsory teaching activities cannot be included in the grade basis. In such a case, the form of assessment in the course must be changed to, for example, portfolio assessment.
  • Portfolio assessment For courses with portfolio assessment, it must be stated whether it is possible to be assessed in a semester without teaching or not.
  • Priority for admission to courses If a course has its own ranking rules for admission to the course, this must be stated in the course description.

Please note that major curriculum changes, such as creating or deleting courses, also have a deadline of September 5. Major curriculum changes apply to the following academic year, while minor changes apply to the upcoming semester.
