Greetings from the Department 17.02.2023

The Biosphere is officially opened!

It is a day of joy for BIO’s students and BIO. Yesterday we opened the new study hall for all our students – “the Biosphere”, just across the hall from the canteen at Høyteknologisenteret, with about 40 places. The student organizations Biologisk fagutvalg (BFU), Helix and Linjeforeningen for fiskehelse og akvakultur will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the study hall, a task they have taken on head on. I hope that the students use the area diligently and that this helps to build Marineholmen as the academic home for all our students. Many thanks to all students and Beate and others who have pushed the process to a happy conclusion.

I remind you of the general assembly on Tuesday next week. At the meeting we will present the accounts for 2022 and the budget for 2023. Furthermore, we will provide information about ongoing processes related to teaching and our course portfolio. I am looking forward to it and hope for a good turnout.

All course-in-charges (emneansvarlige) have received a course-budgeting form earlier this week week. It is important that this is filled in for each individual course. The end product of this process will become an important tool for raising awareness of the resource input in our teaching and also for better cost control. I hope that all course-in-charges and others involved in our teaching take a thorough survey of the use of resources (both time and money) and that this will become a good mechanism for resource management in our teaching.

Many thanks to all of you who have made a great effort and sent applications to the NRC in recent weeks. BIO is the coordinator of 15 applications and a partner in 17. Our research activity is entirely dependent on external funding and we are crossing our fingers and toes that all these applications will pass the eye of the needle.

I wish you all a nice weekend.

Ørjan

Important changes to NRC FRIPRO:

The Ministry of Education has asked the Research Council to reduce the number of applications and to introduce measures that limit the use of resources by applicants and the Research Council. The target is 25% approval, and two important main measures are now being introduced for FRIPRO.
