National Security Month 2024 at UiB

[Our translation]

National security month 2024 – our digital values

“A safer digital everyday life for everyone”, that is the goal of the annual National Security Month campaign. The campaign is organized in October each year, and aims to increase engagement, awareness and knowledge of digital information security in businesses through lectures and events.

During the security month, the Norwegian Center for Information Security (NorSIS) coordinates national activities on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness. Locally at UiB, the Security and Privacy Group at the IT department has taken the initiative for both digital and physical events.

Theme for 2024

In 2023, the University Board decided to substantially strengthen information security at UiB, both technically and organisationally. The aim of the initiative is to protect the university and its employees’ information values. The theme for this year’s national security month is value assessment, which is also one of the measures in UiB’s security initiative.  Assessment of information values, including our research data and other data, requires closeness and good knowledge of the business, therefore we send a special invitation to managers.

Evemts at UiB

Events will be held throughout October, which you can find in the calendar at uib.no. These are aimed at all employees at UiB.

We have also set aside two hours in the auditorium on two different days for relevant, external lectures on valuation:

  • Tuesday 15 October at 10:00-12:00. Auditorium 4 Realfagsbygget: “Datasikkerhet og klassifisering – Men, er det så viktig da? [Data security and classification – But, is it that important?]”, Harald Utnes Kvangarsnes, Advania.
  • Monday 21 October at 10:00-12:00. Auditorium 4 Realfagsbygget: Lecture on information security and valuations, TBA.

After the lectures (approx. 45 minutes), there is an introduction to risk management and valuation, as well as a presentation of a new tool for carrying out risk assessments. There is plenty of time here to ask questions about valuation and information security in general, as well as to get to know the security team at UiB better. We understand that you have a busy everyday life, but we still hope that you have the opportunity to prioritize participating in these events. Feel free to bring other relevant personnel from your own unit who can benefit from the information.

Welcome!
