This will be the last BIOnytt of the year and it is appropriate to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Soon it will be holiday which we have all so deserved this year.
Because it has been a challenging one. We have gone through a large and urgent area reduction process, we have stopped advertising vacancies and we have turned every penny. We have had challenges with staffing teaching and we have reused and repaired equipment instead of buying new.
And on top of all this, we have carried out the year with research, teaching, communication and everything else that we have to do in a very good way. I am impressed by the effort you have all put in, by your courage and team spirit. And I am grateful for the feedback we have received whenever things could have been solved in a better way. Honest and to the point feedback shall always be welcomed at BIO.
Next year will be as challenging. We will have to learn to live with the current financial restrictions, as the situation will not pass quickly. During the past year, we have spent a lot of time and effort adapting to a new everyday situation in our work. With this is mind I think next year will be a little less demanding, even if the financial situation will be equally challenging.
We all know that the University, the Faculty and the whole community around us need BIO and the knowledge-generation we provide through our teaching, research and communication. Our fields are doubtlessly crucial to a positive societal development. Many of the solutions to the climate and nature crises, the global societal challenges and productivity, obviously rests on the development of knowledge within our fields. We will never become irrelevant or redundant.
I wish to thank all of you for phenomenal work in the year that has passed.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
