Financial work: While we wait for the final distribution of the budget, we have started preparing BIO’s budget for next year. We have started by looking at the costs of tuition and fixed salaries.
We have also recently finalized an updated estimate for the financial year 2022 as of October 2022, and this time we have lowered the estimate to 51 million in accumulated deficit. We still have a number of uncertainties that must be settled before the New Year. Including the holiday balance, so I would like to remind you to register your holiday. As previously informed, there is no opportunity to transfer holiday to 2023, unless (part of) your holiday has been cancelled due to illness.

Status of relocation: Still high activity in the areas affected by relocation, and expect a lot of work until the deadline of 02 December.

Greetings from the Department – 18.11.2022

Dear all,

Now we are really in the swing of the current phase of the relocation process, with the deadline of December 2 blinking close ahead. I am impressed by the effort and how well you have solved the challenges. This really shows our capacity. We still have a long way to go, but I feel confident that we can do it. All of you who are directly involved in the move are doing a great job. Now it’s all about giving each other a helping hand where needed to carry boxes, move instruments, give encouragement and be supportive. Step up and help where ever you see it is needed. And then we have to accept that those who are directly involved cannot always contribute fully to their normal tasks.

Reserve 15 December for party and academic discussions. We have been awarded Meltzer funds for a seminar, and we are taking the opportunity to combine the seminar with a super-mega pre-Christmas gathering in the canteen afterwards. Before that, we all gather at a half-day seminar at VilVite about the EU, innovation, cooperation, economy, and more. Of course, there will be a more detailed program shortly. Hope to see as many of you as possible there, so we can collectively shrug our shoulders and have a good time together before Christmas is upon us. We really deserve that. You can find more information about registration, time, place and a small deductible here:

Velkommen til BIO – seminar og middag 15. desember (uib.no)

Lars Jansen Sverkeli and Tharmini Kalananthan both recently defended their PhDs.  Many congratulations to the candidates in particular, but also to their supervisors and scientific communties for a job well done.

With that I wish you all a nice weekend, by and by.  Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Hilsen Ørjan
