Teaching/course budgets

Ørjan has in collaboration with the “faggruppe” leaders, decided that a teaching budget is to be worked out for each course taught at BIO.  The budget is intended to provide an overview of the workload (teaching hours) as well as other costs/resources needed for cruises, field work, labs etc. and thus help us in structuring both the planning of our teaching and distribution of teaching resources.

An initiatal meeting with Anne Bjune (head of teaching), Ørjan and Julie will take place in week 41.  In the  meeting, a sketch of the structure of the budget with an accompanying form (spreadsheet) will be worked out.  We aim to do a pilot-test before Christmas.

Area reduction/relocation

Clearing/tidying up and adjustments is taking place at several locations.  In relation to this, we continuously handle questions that come up in close collaboration with those involved, and organize planning meetings when appropriate.

Follow-up on PhDs teaching duty

Our new guidelines for the Department’s use of our PhDs’ teaching duty hours (Norwegian language) were presented in last issue.  In the time to come we will focus continuously on implementing the new guidelines.

Meeting in the sustainable finances working group

As Ørjan explained in the week 5 newsletter, the dean has appointed a working group and a steering group to handle the process of regaining control of the Department’s finances .  The working group consists of the head of the Faculty’s finance section Trine Gravdal-Lie, professor Dag Aksnes, Department head Ørjan Totland and head of administration Julie Stavnes.  The group’s next meeting is scheduled for 20. oktober.

The next meeting in the steering group is scheduled for 15. November.  Since February, the group has been supplemented by a staff representative – Guttorm Alendal.  Dean Gunn Mangerud and head of administration Elisabeth Müller Lysebo constitute the rest of the group.
