Hi, my name is Katie and I am a new PhD research fellow at BIO. My project will be looking at the regulation of LKB1, a kinase, the mutation of which causes Peutz- Jeghers syndrome, supervised by Fergal O’Farrell. We will focus on endosomal and autophagic regulation using the model organism Drosophila melanogaster.

I have come to Norway from the UK, near London. Prior to starting at UiB I completed a bachelor’s degree in Genetics from the University of York, followed by a masters degree in Human and Molecular genetics from the University of Sheffield. My masters research project was focused on finding the role of UPF1 in telomere homeostasis, mainly its role in telomere replication during S-phase. I also worked for a medical microbiology laboratory and later, a histopathology laboratory.  I’m excited to be here, and I’m really looking forwards to the next few years!
