Dear all,
As many of you may already be aware of, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Dr. Anne Larigauderie, will receive an Honorary Doctorate at the University of Bergen on May 24th. CeSAM are pleased and honored to have assisted UiB with the scientific program around this visit. Anne will be present in Bergen from May 22nd – 25th, and there will be several opportunities to hear, meet, and interact with her.
First and foremost, there are two very interesting events on May 23rd. Both are open to the public, and I hope that many of you will be able to attend! Also, please, inform and encourage your students and colleagues (and others who might be interested). Both will be in English.

The event is open to everyone, and breakfast is served from 08:00!
13:00 – 14:00 Storsalen, UiB Læringsarena Nygårdsgaten 5
In this lecture, Dr Larigauderie will reflect on the development of IPBES, focusing on the panel’s growing influence in the global science policy landscape. She will also discuss IPBES’ impact on science and researchers, on international politics, and on the implementation of measures for nature and nature’s contribution to people.
Please sign up and/or let us know if you will be attending the two events above, it’s useful for us to gauge interest and likely turnout 😊
We strongly encourage CeSAM-ers to make use of this opportunity, and to encourage our students and others to do the same. I am sure this will be very interesting on several levels, and it is also an opportunity to make Anne fee welcome in Bergen and to make UiB and the world around us (!) realize that sustainable area management is key to the transition and transformation our society today wants and urgently needs!
Very best,
Vigdis et al.
FYI: Dr. Anne Larigauderie has been IPBES Executive Secretary since 2014. In these years, she has had a very central role in building up and developing the Nature Panel as a global science panel that compiles knowledge about nature and nature’s contribution to people, and that works to strengthen interaction between research and politics. The panel has a similar role for knowledge about nature as the UN climate panel has for climate.
