PhD education is a very important part of the faculty’s activities, and the supervisor role is particularly crucial in the PhD education. The Faculty of Science and Technology aims to facilitate the best possible handling of this role. In this regard, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology is pleased to invite our Ph.D. supervisors to a half-day seminar. The seminar ends with a simple lunch.

The seminar will be held in English.

09.00 – 10.00 Quality indicators for the synopsis

The aim of the lecture is to discuss key quality indicators for the extended abstract (“synopsis”) and the overall thesis, as well as how to establish coherence between the articles and the synopsis in an article-based thesis.

10.15 – 12.00 Is there a science to supervision?

In this interactive discussion we will present perspectives on effective supervision, and while there are aspects of supervision that are clearly beneficial to students, we will argue that there is not one way to be an effective supervisor. We will show some data from recent research and discuss selected case studies.
