My name is Rebekka Haugland, and I recently started as a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen, with my office at the Institute of Marine Research. In my PhD, I will be working on developing sustainability indicators for seafood, looking at how we can better capture seafood’s role in sustainable food systems. The project is still in its early stages, but I look forward to exploring many different aspects, from environmental impacts and nutrition to contaminants, and perhaps even the potential of new resources such as mesopelagic fish and macroalgae.
I have a background in Ocean Science & Marine Conservation (BSc, University of Plymouth) and Marine Sustainability (MSc, UiB), where my thesis focused on the nutritional and climate impacts of small pelagic fish. I am passionate about interdisciplinary research that connects environment, health, and food systems, and I am excited to get to know colleagues at BIO and IMR and contribute to ongoing discussions and projects.
