JPI Oceans – New Blue Carbon Joint Call makes €5.3 million available in funding

A new JPI Oceans Joint Call on Blue Carbon Ecosystems is now open, led by the Marine Institute in Ireland

A total amount of approximately €5.3 million has been allocated by the funding partners from Ireland, Canada, Germany, Malta, Norway and Poland.

Norway expects to fund up to 3 projects. Within a single project proposal, the maximum requested funding for all Norwegian partners collated should not exceed €333,000.

The call invites proposals that deepen understanding of carbon dynamics, assess ecosystem resilience under climate and human pressures, and evaluate how restoration and protection measures can build lasting impact. Co-branded under the UN Ocean Decade, it forms part of wider international efforts to strengthen the knowledge base for climate and biodiversity action. Proposals can be submitted until 2 March 2026.
