Belmont Forum Call : OCEAN 2: Towards the Ocean We Want : Biodiversity and Ecosystem Sustainability for Nature and Human Well-being
In this Belmont Forum CRA call, the Research Council of Norway contributes with 17 MNOK to Norwegian research organisations. Maximum amount requested by Norwegian partners per project is 250 K€. The purpose of the call is to enhance our knowledge about the oceans and foster international, transdisciplinary research to address global environmental challenges facing our oceans. All Norwegian sea areas are included in the call, included the polar oceans.
This is the Belmont Forum’s second call for proposals on the marine and coastal environment. The call has three themes and applications must cover at least one of the three areas:
- Area 1: Biodiversity Conservation and Nature-Based Solutions
- Area 2: Ocean-Biodiversity-Climate Integration
- Area 3: Nature Futures, Ocean Governance, and Ethics for Sustainability
Projects must be transdisciplinary and include partners from a minimum of three of the countries participating in the call, see the Belmont Forum website. The call has been approved as an activity under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
There is a two-stage application process and only invited applicants after submission of sketches can submit a full application by the main deadline.
Deadline for registration of sketches: 5 March 2026.
Call Opens: 11 June 2025
Main deadline: 17 September 2026.
