New member of staff – Sara Karvo

Hi everyone! My name is Sara Karvo, and I started working as a PhD candidate in the Theoretical Ecology Group here at BIO. My work will be part of the project DRIFT – Systematically Rethinking Advection and Cross-Ecosystem Subsidies, led by Tom Langbehn. In my thesis, I will use particle tracking models to study how currents are transporting open ocean mesopelagic micronekton to shallower shelf sea areas.

I studied both physical oceanography and marine science at the University of Helsinki, and my research interests are in the interactions between the two. My master’s thesis focused on the vertical migration patterns of zooplankton in acoustically measured water velocity data. I’m also a scientific diver, and last year I worked as a research technician at the University of the Balearic Islands in Spain.

Nice to meet you all!
