Dean’s brief week 21 2026

  • On Thursday, Professor Deryn Fogg from the University of Ottawa was conferred with the degree of Honorary Doctor at the University of Bergen, Faculty of Science and Technology. We are proud to have her as our Faculty’s Honorary Doctor. She is a world-leading expert in organometallic chemistry and catalysis, developing tools, insights and processes for the sustainable production of molecules and materials. In addition, she is an outstanding ambassador for science. Particularly noteworthy is her unusually long nine‑year tenure as chair of a breakfast seminar series designed to connect Canada’s top researchers with Members of Parliament and federal decision‑makers – updating them on groundbreaking research and establishing a culture of knowledge-based policy development in Canada.
  • We also received very good news from the Research Council this week: Two of our SFF applications have advanced to the next stage. Centre for Thundercloud Electrodynamics, led by Martino Marisaldi, and the Norwegian Centre for Cellular Physics, led by Sushma Grellscheid and Justas Zalieckas. Both represent strong research environments conducting groundbreaking research. We wish them the very best of luck!
