This Tuesday, we celebrated the official opening of Bergen Centre for Quantum Technology (Quantum UiB). We were delighted to welcome our newly appointed Minister of Research and Higher Education, Eileen Fugelsnes, who joined us for the occasion. Quantum UiB has been established through a partnership between UiB and the Trond Mohn Research Foundation (TMF).
Following the opening ceremony, the faculty hosted a seminar that brought together researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to discuss how quantum technology may impact fields such as healthcare, energy, transport, security, and digital communication. The discussions also explored how industry and the public sector can respond to the opportunities and challenges that accompany these developments. I think our key message can be summarized as follows: quantum technology is evolving from a field of fundamental research into a strategic area with significant implications for industrial development, national preparedness, and future value creation. UiB aims to play a visible and active role in shaping this development, both nationally and internationally.
