What a week! On Wednesday, we received the wonderful news that the Government is proposing NOK 80 million for the preliminary planning phase of UiB Realfaghøyden. It is important to emphasise that this funding is for the planning phase, not for the construction itself. Nevertheless, it represents a major and crucial step towards the renovation of the Science Building and the Physics Building, as well as the construction of a new building in Allégaten. As we move forward, we will continue to emphasise that academic needs must be at the heart of the planning process for our future research and education facilities.
The national budget also brings more great news for the Faculty. UiB will play a key role in the new national initiative on space technology, with NOK 10 million in 2027 and NOK 20 million annually from 2028. We will also receive 25 new study places in quantum technology. These are important investments in our strong academic communities and in the expertise Norway will need in the years ahead
Behind this week’s good news lie many years of hard work by many people, both at the Faculty and across UiB. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed! This is wonderful news to take with us into the autumn break and the weekend!
