On Monday (01.12) over 100 early careers, professors, researchers, students, and administrative staff from BIO, NORCE, NINA, IMR, the Michael Sars centre, BIOMED and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research gathered at VilVite for the very first BIO-ECC Conference.
The aim of this conference was to showcase early career research in BIO and the associated institutes. During 6 thematic sessions, 28 talks, 17 posters and two keynote speakers, we enjoyed a day of community and learning across a broad range of biological topics spanning the deep sea to mountain tops and everything in-between.
A huge thank you to all our wonderful presenters who showcased the amazing early career work being done at BIO and all other represented institutes. Special congratulations go to our award winners Andrea Campos Candela (Postdoc, BIO, Theoretical Ecology Group) for the best oral presentation and Freya Coursey (PhD, BIO, Terrestrial Ecology Group) for the best poster.
Also massive thank you to our keynote speakers, Ragnhild Gya (Postdoc, BIO, Terrestrial Ecology Group) and Natalya Gallo (Postdoc, NORCE) for their inspiring talks on science communication and scientific policy
The ECC board would also like to thank Vice Rector Kristoffer Chelsom Vogt for the opening remarks and Ståle Ellingsen for the closing remarks that bookended the conference and really highlighted the community and collaborative spirit of the day!
We are really looking forwards to the BIO-ECC conference next year, and we hope you are too!
