My name is Paul Michael Kauffman. Last week, I started my 4-year PhD. Fellowship at BIO. Under the supervision of Rachael Morgan, I will investigate how ocean warming and hypoxia affect vision in fish, using Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) as my model organism. This project is a part of the larger project investigating the lesser known climate effects on fish by combining vision, fear, and energetics.
I am a Bergenser – born and raised – and have taken a BSc. in molecular biology here at UiB. I spent 2 years in Trondheim completing my MSc. in Neuroscience at NTNU before returning back to Bergen and joining Marios Chatzigeorgiou’s group at the Michael Sars Centre. Here, I spent the last 2 years as the departmental engineer.
