I am Rebecca Ellul and I recently started my postdoctoral position at the Fish Immunology group. During my PhD, I was based at the same group where I investigated the impact of pasteurellosis caused by Pasteurella atlantica gv cyclopteri on farmed lumpfish in Norway. In my new position I will continue my research on pasteurellosis but focusing on the variant affecting Atlantic salmon (P. atlantica gv. salmonicida). My primary aims are to characterise the bacteria and identify antigens and virulence factors that will be used in vaccine development against the disease. During the project we will also investigate the immune responses in Atlantic salmon resulting from infection with the pathogen. I am originally from Malta, and have previously worked in Scotland at a commercial aquaculture research laboratory.
