Hei! My name is Janne and I recently started my three-year PhD in Applied Ecology here at BIO. Originally from Germany, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Geography at the University of Kiel and obtained my master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Kassel. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a passion for studying the relationships between the biophysical environment and human societies. My research interests lie at the intersection of social-ecological issues, empirical social research, GIS, and participatory planning approaches. Within this framework, I place a strong emphasis on translating theoretical knowledge into practical spatial solutions.

Here at UiB, I am excited to be part of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Heritage and Environmental Management, specifically contributing to the «ACTIONABLE» project under the supervision of Dr. Alicia Donellan Barraclough. The project focuses on how adaptive co-management can foster biocultural diversity and sustainable development in coastal communities. To be able to address land-use conflicts from a social-ecological perspective, I will conduct research on ecosystem services and place-based values in the Nordhordland UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

I am excited to meet you in the upcoming three years!
