New member of staff – Mikhail Zhemchuzhnikov

My name is Misha Zhemchuzhnikov. I got my PhD in Arctic Ecology from the University of Groningen and the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research in 2024. My research expertise and interests lie in Arctic terrestrial ecosystems and food webs, their structure, and their responses to climate change.

Arctic science is rarely the effort of a single research group; instead, it requires close collaboration across disciplines and national boundaries. Throughout my career as a polar ecologist, I have interacted with scientists across the Arctic research community, both in the field and through international collaborations.

Here at the University of Bergen, I hold a postdoctoral position in the Between the Fjords research group (led by Vigdis Vandvik), supporting the author team of Chapter 14, “Terrestrial, Freshwater and Cryospheric Biodiversity, Ecosystems and Their Services,” of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), Working Group II, as Chapter Scientist. I also contribute to the report through the relevant synthesis of scientific evidence.

It’s a pure pleasure to be here in Bergen and at UiB, and I very much look forward to working with you all! Det er hyggelig å være her! Mange takk for en varm velkomst!

Kind regards,
Misha
