Kjære kolleger,
I høst har vi invitert til en samling som vi har kalt «bioDAG», og det trenger muligens litt nærmere forklaring. I mange år har høsten vært tid for å samles til det vi kaller «Lærersamling». Denne samlingen ble satt i gang under bioCEED perioden, der alle som er involvert i undervisning ved BIO blitt invitert for å diskutere alle sidene ved undervisning i høyere utdanning. Det har vært mange viktige og konstruktive diskusjoner og prosesser som har funnet sted ved disse samlingene, og utdanningen ved BIO har nytt godt av dette i mange år. I noen år nå, så har vi imidlertid ikke hat institutt samlinger der forskningen vår har vært i fokus. Dette tenker jeg det er på tide å gjøre noe med, og det er derfor bioDAG har kommet opp på kalenderen. Detaljene i programmet for årets bioDAG er under utvikling, men i store trekk vil dagen deles i to. Første halvdel vil være en lærersamling slik vi kjenner det fra før. Etter lunch vil vi sette fokus på biologien og forskningsrelaterte tema. I år vil vi også bruke tid på vår nye strategi 2027-2031 som blir skrevet denne høsten. Det vil snart komme invitasjon til dagen, og det vil være naturlig at vi blir flere etter lunch. Vi ser for oss at vi samles til felles lunch etter lærersamlingen, før vi setter i gang med andre halvdel av programmet med mer forskingsfokus. Håper så mange som mulig har anledning til å sette av tid til dette som jeg mener vil bli en særdeles viktig dag for oss i årene som kommer. Torsdag 26.november skal det skje!
Gratulasjoner er også på sin plass denne uken. To verifiseringssøknader ble innvilget i NFR, nemlig «Xenosense» med Odd Andre Karlsen og Anders Goksøyr, og «SmartZyme» med Ida H Steen og Runar Stokke. Vi gertulerer og gleder osds til å høre mer om disse to prosjektene!
Infrastruktur søknaden «Aquafeed Technology Centre II» fikk også tilslag forrige uke. Her er det et samarbeid mellom Nofima, NORCE og BIO på forsking på bærekraftig fiskefôr der Dorinde Kleinegris (1.amanuensis II ved BIo og Ida Steen er involverte. Gratulerer så masse!

Dear colleagues,
This autumn, we have invited everyone to a gathering that we have called «bioDAG», and that name may need a bit of explanation. For many years, autumn has been the time for what we call the «Teacher’s Retreat.» This event was established during the bioCEED period, when everyone involved in teaching at BIO was invited to discuss all aspects of higher education. Many important and constructive discussions and processes have taken place during these gatherings, and BIO’s educational activities have benefited greatly from them over the years.
For some time now, however, we have not had an department-wide gathering with a particular focus on our research. I believe it is time to do something about that, which is why bioDAG has been added to the calendar. The details of this year’s program are still being finalized, but broadly speaking, the day will be divided into two parts. The first half will be a teacher’s retreat in the format we already know. After lunch, we will shift our focus to biology and research-related topics. This year, we will also spend time discussing our new Strategy 2027-2031, which is being developed this autumn. An invitation with further details will be sent out shortly. We envision gathering for a shared lunch following the teacher’s retreat before launching into the second, more research-focused part of the program. As the second half of the program involves everyone, we expect to increase the number of participants from lunch and onwards. I hope that as many of you as possible will be able to set aside time for what I believe will be an exceptionally important day for our institute in the years ahead. Thursday, 26 November, is the date to mark in your calendars!
Congratulations are also in order this week. Two verification grant applications were awarded funding by the Research Council of Norway (RCN): «XenoSense,» led by Odd Andre Karlsen and Anders Goksøyr, and «SmartZyme,» led by Ida H. Steen and Runar Stokke. Congratulations to all involved, and we look forward to hearing more about these exciting projects. The infrastructure proposal «Aquafeed Technology Centre II» was also funded last week. This is a collaboration between Nofima, NORCE, and BIO focusing on research into sustainable fish feed. The project involves Dorinde Kleinegris (Associate Professor II at BIO) and Ida Steen. Many congratulations to everyone involved!
