UiB has been a member of the SANORD network since 2007, – a network with over 50 universities from the Nordic region and the SADEC region (South Africa, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia).SANORD is an association of institutions for higher education and research, with the aim of promoting strategic, multilateral academic cooperation between institutions in the Nordic and southern African regions. One of the network’s activities is the SANORD Annual Conference, hosted every other year in the Nordics and Southern African region. In 2025, the SANORD conference is hosted by Aarhus University, 13-15 August in Aarhus, Denmark.
The conference always has an interdisciplinary focus, and the theme of this year’s conference is “Knowledge Economies in a Changing World”.
Call for abstracts is out now, with a deadline of 1. April (please note: the website deadline is 1.March, but an extended deadline has been confirmed).
You may sumit abstracts to the following sub-themes:
1. Learning from Africa-Europe partnerships in research and education
2. Decolonial technology design
3. Building a Resilient and Functional Future for Nature and People
4. Creative Economies in Africa: Platforms, Frameworks and Impacts
5. Securing futures through sustainable water management.
6. Bridging Research and Practice: Community-Oriented Solutions for Global Health Challenges
7. Decolonising Education, Disrupting Global Hierarchies: Towards a new moral knowledge economy?

UIB offers support of up to NOK 10,000 to researchers and students whose conference abstract is accepted and who plan to participate in the conference. Please note that the grant does not cover all travel expenses for participants, and that the remaining amount must be covered by other funds. Researchers themselves are responsible for finding additional funding from their faculty or from other sources.
A short application by email should be sent to kristin.svartveit@uib.no after receiving confirmation of accepted abstract. The funds will be allocated administratively after a short processing time
